5 Favorite Baby Items
I've seen list after list of "Top 10 Must Haves for Baby" or "Top 5 Most Essential Items for Baby" but for me it's so hard to narrow down things of importance. To me, things are either essential (crib, sleepers, mattress) or they are perceived as essential. One mama might perceive her $200 baby swing as essential because it's the only thing that will calm her fussy baby while another mama would balk at the suggestion. That being said, I'm not here to tell you what is important and what is not but rather to show you a few items that have become my favorites to use with my baby in her first year of life!
1. Diaper Doo
Yes, I'm going there. Diaper Doo. It may not be a fun activity to change a stinky diaper but this little tube of magic will sure make things easier for both parties. This stuff is great for severe diaper rash and over night application and has none of the pasty texture of traditional diaper cream which makes for much easier clean up! It's reminiscent of lanolin or petroleum jelly and fixes up a sore bum in no time! You can find it here on Amazon.
2. Shape and color sorting cube
I chose this product specifically because of its versatility and educational value. The sorting cube I have is by Melissa & Doug and is all wood, which I love. You can find it here on Amazon! My daughter, who is currently 11 months, doesn't understand the concept of fitting the shapes into their respective holes quite yet but she still loves this product. The wooden shapes are the perfect size for her to pick up, chew on, and clang together. She even loves the actual box and has started picking it up and dumping out the pieces. I know this will be a product she will get use of now as well as down the road!
3. Touch and feel books
My daughter loves these touch and feel books! I would argue these books have gotten her more interested in books in general in the recent months. She loves to explore the different textures on each page and has learned where each patch of fur is and reaches for them each time. They are great for sensory play while getting babies interested in books, which is always a positive thing! We were gifted these specific books as a pack of four but you can find them on Amazon!
4. Silicone bib
I honestly can't believe anyone uses cloth bibs anymore. Okay.. so maybe that's a bit dramatic, but seriously these bibs are fantastic! The silicone is incredibly easy to clean--just wipe and go--which gives you one less thing to stress about at meal time (something I think all mamas can appreciate). And the pocket. Whoever invented bibs with pockets needs an award. I'm not saying this is the end all be all but man, it's pretty close. We all know babies are messy eaters, I mean, let's be honest, often times more food ends up on the baby than in the baby. That's where this pocket comes in handy! It catches 90% of food that doesn't make it into my daughter's mouth which allows me to either pick it out of her pocket and put it on her plate (less waste!) or if she is all done you can easily dump the contents of the pocket into the trash or compost bin. You can find this bib and more like it on Amazon.
5. Boogie wipes
I know what you may be thinking. I thought it too at first. Why would I need to buy special wipes for my baby's nose when normal tissue would suffice? Doesn't that seem a little bougie? Maybe. But then I had a baby and realized they are little snot factories in constant need of cleaning up! Have you ever had a bad cold that required a constant stash of tissue on hand? And how did your nose feel after that ordeal? Probably a little raw. It's no different for our little ones except that it may be worse due to their soft sweet baby skin. That's why I like to use these Boogie Wipes on my daughter; I know they're gentle because they are saline based, and additionally they really help to break up some of those more stubborn, dare I say crusty, boogies. You can find them in stores like Target or here on Amazon!
I hope these five favorites have helped you or might help someone you know!
