My Yoga Journey

Image
First off, I need to acknowledge that everyone's yoga practice is different and there is no one right way to go about it. That being said, it is always of the upmost importance to make sure you are moving your body in a safe and healthy way. I am excited to share with you how I started my yoga journey and the ups and downs that I have experienced along the way! I started this journey in March of 2014 when attending University. To give you some context, my boyfriend at the time--now my husband--was out of the country doing his student teaching in the far away land of South Korea. Previously, I had spent a lot  of my time with him and now found myself twiddling my thumbs in my 11x11 single dorm room.  During some of this downtime I was perusing the rabbit hole that is Instagram and stumbled upon the yoga hashtag. This opened up an entire world unbeknownst to me full of men and women who could contort their bodies into astonishing and gravity-defying positions all while sta...

5 Favorite Baby Items

Image
I've seen list after list of "Top 10 Must Haves for Baby" or "Top 5 Most Essential Items for Baby" but for me it's so hard to narrow down things of importance. To me, things are either essential (crib, sleepers, mattress) or they are perceived  as essential. One mama might perceive  her $200 baby swing as essential because it's the only thing that will calm her fussy baby while another mama would balk at the suggestion. That being said, I'm not here to tell you what is important and what is not but rather to show you a few items that have become my favorites  to use with my baby in her first year of life! 1. Diaper Doo Yes, I'm going there. Diaper Doo.  It may not be a fun activity to change a stinky diaper but this little tube of magic will sure make things easier for both parties. This stuff is great for severe diaper rash and over night application and has none of the pasty texture of traditional diaper cream which makes for much easier ...

5 Things I Wish I Knew Before Having a Baby

Image
Books, classes, and advice--solicited or not--are all fine ways to prepare, but in reality experience is the best teacher. Or so I’ve found when it comes to motherhood. Since becoming a mother nearly a year ago ago, I’d like to think I’ve learned a lot. I also accept there is MUCH more I don’t know, but here are five noteworthy things I’ve learned in my mama journey so far: You cannot pour from an empty cup. Being number one, this is naturally the most important thing I’ve learned in my mama journey: You cannot pour from an empty cup . In a baby-mama relationship there is a whole lotta give and not a lot of take on our end. The moment these cute little parasites (and I say that lovingly) come into the world they will depend on you for literally everything. They will suck the life right out of you and yet you will still give, give, give because that’s what you have to do. But, please , mama, make sure to give back to yourself. Take some time each week to do something FOR...

Allow Me to Introduce Myself

Thanks for stopping by! My name is Taylor JoAn and I’m your average mama. I’ve been happily married to the love of my life for going on four years now and together we have a beautiful daughter, Nora Lynne, who is now ONE year old! I live off of coffee and baby snuggles during the day and sweet red wine at night. I love yoga, home design and low waste living among other things! I started this blog as a creative outlet and a way to maintain my personal identity in the midst of my new transition into motherhood because, let’s be honest, motherhood is ah-mazing , but it’s also kind of like going on a really long road trip; the idea is exciting, but you’re sleep deprived, don’t really know where you’re going, and probably need a shower. So thanks for checking in! I hope you find something you can connect with here and if you feel so inclined, let your friends, aunts, moms, neighbors--whoever--know about your average mama and maybe they’ll find something they can relate to as well. ...
